These days, diesel engines need to emit less exhaust into the air. Efforts have been under way to find solutions to meet current and future emissions standards here and around the world.

Ford is part of this effort and have been working to make sure that the PowerStroke V8 diesel engine is among the cleanest on the road. Currently, PowerStroke V8-equipped F-Series Super Duty trucks use a fluid that cleans up particles inside of the exhaust system, emitting less toxic tailpipe emissions. This fluid is called Diesel Exhaust Fluid or DEF. DEF is poured into a reservoir either inside of the engine bay or through a port by the EZ-Fuel filler port (depending on model).

All the fluid does is to wash the exhaust system. The fluid simply cleans the entire system out to achieve less carbon emissions form the tailpipe. The result goes beyond exhaust, as it also helps keep the engine run cleaner. A cleaner diesel engine also means a longer service lifespan. To optimize the use of DEF, watch fluid levels, which can be read from the instrument panel of the F-Series Super Duty. Keep the DEF reservoir full at best, along with keeping up on the truck's maintenance schedule.

Need some DEF? Stop by the parts department of Suburban Ford of Sterling Heights to get some to put into the exhaust system of the PowerStroke powered F-Series Super Duty. We can also help in pointing out where DEF is sold by specific pumps at several fueling stations across the USA and Canada.
