When the weather becomes warmer and the sun returns on a regular basis, it is a call to get the vehicle cleaned up for the new season.

Often, that means running it through a car wash, getting the salt and sand from the road and shining it up for better days. By doing so, it is only scratching the surface. What a vehicle needs is something more comprehensive and a much deeper clean than a regular car wash would do.

It needs a complete detail job!

What goes into a complete detail job on your vehicle? Here are the steps that go into one…

THE FLOOR MATS, BEFORE THE REST OF THE INTERIOR: A detail job starts from the inside. Since the most traffic into a vehicle is where the feet touch the carpet or floor mats, a deep vacuum of the floor mats is the first place to start. If it needs any spot removal, or needs a complete clean, use a solution to get at those spots or for a full scrub down of the mats. Rubber mats simply need a wash, but make sure there is an anti-slip coating on these mats to ensure proper footing inside the vehicle. Let the mats dry and leave them out of the vehicle until the detail job is complete.

GOING DEEP INTO THE INTERIOR: If there are any spots on the carpet or on the seats, use a solution - a foam cleanser, for example - and a damp cloth to tackle them. A complete clean of the seats and carpets may be needed beyond just the spots. If there is a permanent stain, a burn or a hole, take a razor blade to remove it and replace it with material hidden previously from sight to patch it up. Use a water-resistant adhesive to apply underneath the new material. Then, go through any gaps and crevices inside the interior with a compressed air jet (in a can or an industrial jet) and a detail brush. A mild all-purpose cleaner is used on hard interior surfaces.

THE FINISHING TOUCHES INSIDE: Finishing it off with ArmorAll is suggested, but read the owner's manual before using any specific finisher since not all surfaces is compatible with that solvent. Use a detail brush to clean vent ducts. Shampoo the seats for a full clean - or, use specific surface cleaner for leather or Alcantara upholstery. The last thing is to clean the windows from the inside. This includes using a plastic cleaner for the gauge cluster covers and a steel wool to remove build up from the previous season.
